A Puzzle for You!

Today's Wonder of the World is...a mystery for you!

I don't usually post much on the weekend, but I thought you might enjoy a little puzzle. I found the print above and two more below at a yard sale, and at first I didn't know what they were. Do you recognize them? Do you know what they're used for?
Here are the other two:
This one.

And this one.

I just love discovering things that serve an ordinary purpose, but in an extraordinary way.
Remember my French sugar cube dispenser?

Or my spice holder guys?

Anyway, my three prints serve a purpose too. I have a fourth, but it might give it away, so I'll wait 'til Sunday night to show you.
Guesses anyone?
Have a wonder-full Saturday!

SUNDAY FOLLOW-UP:
Susan and Jojo, you guessed it! Here's the fourth and last example of my 1924 and 1929 Sunday School attendance cards.

See why I thought this might give it away?
Happy Sunday!
Becky

Hi Becky - were those prints used to teach children to count perhaps? Whatever, they are very cute.

Thanks for your kind comment on my porch and garden here in Raleigh - after this weekend with temps over 100, the hydrangeas are struggling to breathe - me too!!! Much too hot for June.

Wow, loved reading about your book and will have to get a copy - I love to read about people who relocate to France. My brother and his family moved from London to the Languedoc permanently four years ago. They had a holiday home there for about 12 years then decided to up sticks and live there, buying and restoring a gorgeous 200 y.o. village house. I've just got my ticket to visit again this Oct. - can hardly wait to get there as I love the lifestyle.......and of course want to see my family!

Let's keep in touch - know you must be a Wolfpack fan!!!!
Have a fun weekend.

I think it's from a childrens math workbook. Some kind of counting or word problems.
Have a great weekend,
Rosemary

Connect the dots? Which ones are different? Psychological projective testing cards to assess emotional instability? I give up.

This is really buggin' me! Color blindness tests perhaps?
I don't know, but I sure like the Hollyhocks one!
Congrats on the book! I'll have to look it up~

What fun ideas y'all have! But nope, nope, and nope.
Alisa, Tanner always has a fun weekend, no matter what. He's been doing a lot of sleeping in the sun, which he can only do now thanks to his short haircut. (It's 101 degrees outside! I don't know how he stands it!)
Writer reading, welcome to the blog! I love that--psychological assessment cards! Funny.
Hey Scarlett Rose Garden. The hollyhock one is my favorite too. But no...

I'll post my fourth example later today. I bet you'll guess it then.

Okay, I did a search for 'lamar and barton' 'lamar and whitmore' 'paintings' 'counting' and I still don't know. Sooo I'm going to hazard a guess and say....counting. I mean, what else could it be?
PS
I love your blog logo!

These are French playing cards used by kids to attach to bicycle spokes.

The airplane race is a bit scary - I hope that's not the French Air Force.

The sugar cube dispenser doubles as a home defense tool. Aimed properly & cranked quickly, it doubles as a gattling gun against intruders. Once the burglar is hit - grab the chef dude to rub salt into the wound.

Are Hollyhocks anything like ham hocks? I've only lived in the sout for a few years.

Ok well, this is driving me nuts. Are the butterflies a special clue? They are so similar to the airplanes. Oh, I have the same little spice men...they make me smile.

According to an auction on ebay, they are Sunday school attendance records? Kids stick one sticker on each time they attend?

Hi Becky,

I am so glad that you stopped by to visit my blog page! It has been a pleasure reading your posts and I will be adding your book to my summer reading list.

As for the cards, they are the Attendance and On-Time Plan for Sunday School Departments. According to the directions if a student was absent or late, he/she would not receive a seal with goal of creating a pretty card. Lamar & Barton declared that "these devices surely get results."

Don't you want to know about the lives of the previous card owners? From the looks of it, they were on-time and present often!

Rebecca Ramsey said...

Woo hoo! Susan and Jojo are right! The cards are Sunday School attendance records. Every Sunday the children would receive a sticker (of an airplane or flower or butterfly) and add it to their card!
Thanks for your guesses! They were fun to read!

We just returned from five hours in the car...ugh...but as soon as I fix some pancakes for dinner, I'll post the fourth example.
Thanks for playing, folks!
Becky

I am trying to find out more about these attendence cards and I found your site. I have 15 of these from 1924 and one smith and lamar from 1919. Would you happen to know if there are any collectors of these or are they worth anything? Thanks for taking time to answer. Kathy
