Feet!

Today's Wonder of the World is...Feet!

I don't usually think much about feet, but today feet kept popping up all over!

First, my almost 16 year old son Ben was hounding me to get him some sandals. He wears size 14. Yes, size 14. The boy has got some gi-normous feet.
They do not sell many shoes that big, unless you're at a shopping mall for clowns.
We have no clown malls near us.
Just kidding, Ben. You know you love me.
Besides, as I always say, big feet make for a strong foundation.

Anywho, after I scoured the internet for enormous sandals, I was going through some pictures from my beach trip with Sarah and her friends and saw this.

Duck feet have always fascinated me.

Pretty soon I couldn't get feet off my mind.
You know the problem...

Except it wasn't my own feet I was thinking about. It was animal feet!

Sometimes the feet were happy...

And sometimes they were wearing blue socks.
This penguin looks dashing, I think. He's wearing socks because his poor little tootsies are calloused from too much walking and not enough swimming. Apparently penguins in captivity get lazy, and so now this little dude at the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, gets a rigorous treatment regime, including saltwater foot baths, ointment applications, and fashion footwear design. Do they take humans? Sounds nice, penguin!

I'm also crazy about polar bear feet.

They remind me of this.

Yum.

And I like horse feet.

But not this kind. My goodness.

This kind.

And kitty cat feet!

Aren't those pink feet precious?

And of course I can't forget Tanner the Slobber Dog, and his cute puppy toes from a couple years back.

Like all baby toes, they grow!

Boy, those are big feet.
Wonder if they have clown shoes for dogs?

Thanks, flickr! Who cares about the shoes!
Tanner, come here boy! Guess what you're doing next Halloween?

Y'all have a Wonder-full Thursday!
Love, Becky

And thanks to my flickr pals for their public photos: Tollen, loco sinned, moggierocket, peke cheeks, shhexycorin, psrman, and ukumari.

I think one of the worst jobs in the world must be to have to give people pedicures and I think all who do it are saints and should be tipped heavily. Feet are often not pretty but this post kicks that notion goodbye.

OMG!! Polar bear feet, horsey feet, penguin feet and kitty feet. I am cuted out. Adorable post.

But, Becky, really? Size 14? Wow!! Those are some big feet. I bet you can remember when he had itty bitty baby feet. ;-)

What did Tanner say about your Halloween plans? You should have shown him the fake centaur first; then the clown-dog would have been a relief.

Hey Denise!
La belette, I agree on the pedicure thing. I've never had one because I'm too chicken. And yes, size 14. And those feet once were itty bitty. No more.

kalynne, ha! No, with Tanner it's always better to spring it on him last minute. Otherwise he eats the hat.

Hey Amy and mah-meee. Welcome to the blog!

I LOVE baby feet, but not big people feet. And I LOVE animal feet too.

My friend had a size 14 shoe in high school. We didn't call them his feet we called them his skiis. ;)

Love this! Does the bottom of Tanner's feet smell like Fritos?? Edward's do. Try and see. I've heard that's a common thing with dogs! And no, I'm not nuts!
And I just adore the blue puffin feet.

baby feet in particular... nothing better to kiss and nibble on...

Hey Rosemary, yes Ben is going to be a tall man. For now those feet move fast in cross country, rather than the b-ball court, but the look is similar!

Kathryn, skiis is a term we have used as well! He's a little tricky to sit across the table from at dinner.

Hi c. cafe, you used to do pedicures? Wow! You're a brave woman! I bet you've got stories to tell!

Hi Patty. I bet Carter has some cute baby feet!

Pamela, yes they do! I had heard this from Pioneer Woman and did a test of my own. It's remarkable. I'd like to know why. What kind of doggy paw chemical is in fritos?

Terri and Bob, I agree! Not much sweeter than that.

Reminds me of a Dr. Suess book my kids adored.
"Left foot, left foot, left foot, right. Feet, feet, feet, oh how many feet you meet. . . ."

Don't you just looooooove a foot massage?! I demand them regularly. I wouldn't touch man feet though. Man feet are not nice. Do you notice how shoes destroy our beautiful, innocent feet? I am glad I am not addicted to pointy high heels, because then my feet would start looking nasty like man feet do!
I don't think I am going to smell my pup's feet. Blech.

Oh you make me laugh as you have such a way with words. No wonder you had a book published.
I have a reindeer costume, yep I do and I'm admitting it here, you can borrow for Tanner nest Christmas is you want? tee-hee!
Thanks for your kind words recently.

I read your blog everyday ever since your agent mentioned it on his blog. I was hoping it would be nice if you could talk about your path to publication here. It is always nice and encouraging for aspiring authors to know these success stories.

Your posts clearly show that you are a very nice person.

Cathy, I know that book. My kids loved it too. Dr. Suess is a wonder himself!

qugrainne, I do love a foot massage, though I hardly ever get one. You know what I also enjoy? A hand massage! I used to know a teacher who taught with me who would give hand massages in the teachers' lounge. That was so wonderful.
I agree with you on the man feet. Shoes are cruel.
And I know sniffing a doggy's feet sounds gross, but try it. You'll be amazed.

Hey all over the map. A reindeer costume! Now that would be fun.

Hi Gina. It's nice to meet you! Yes, I'll have to write about that because it's a wonder anyone gets published anymore. I was definitely fortunate. I don't know if you've been to my book website yet, but I do chat a little about the journey in the FAQs section. The site is www.rebeccasramsey.com
But I'll blog about it some time. Thanks!

Okay, I will admit it. If I can change a baby's diaper, I can sniff the pup's feet, right?
OMG! They do smell like fritos!! Blech, I don't like fritos.
Very wierd.

Rebecca Ramsey said...

Ha!
We'll, at least you tried it!

I found your delightful blog via Writer Reading ... I will definitely be back.

You know, I've noticed that people's feet in general seem to be getting bigger. All the teenagers I see, of both genders, seem to have feet 2 or 3 sizes larger than people of my generation. And if you look at people in films and TV shows from the 1950s, they had tiny feet compared to ours. I don't know whether we're getting taller, or just ... flappier.
