Ridiculous Beauty

Today's Wonder of the World is...that I'm somehow able to love my husband, even though he went by himself on a business trip to our French hometown that is SO BEAUTIFUL THAT I'M IN PAIN!!!

That, my friends, is the view outside his hotel room.
Don't you just want to kill him? I do.
Well, I might be exaggerating just a tad.

But look at this!

Okay, now you want to kill him, don't you? He bought one of those millefeuilles and ate it right on the street!
I LOVE millefeuilles! (Americans call them Napoleons. They are absurdly delicious.)
The thought of him enjoying one without me makes me want to pull out all my hair! And then he'd have to look at me bald-- which is just what he deserves!

And if that isn't enough, look at this butcher's chop. I mean shop.
(Hey, that mistake is kind of funny.)
Look at it!

Does a butcher's shop deserve to be that beautiful?
Only if I'm there!

And here's rue des Gras, my favorite street in Clermont-Ferrand.

Did you notice the carving of the washing of the feet of the disciples? It's in an ordinary apartment wall! I've been in that apartment! Our French friend Mathilde made us foie gras in that apartment and it was AMAZING!

But I'm not there! I'm sitting here in muggy hot South Carolina (which I love. Don't get your feelings hurt, South Carolina) and Todd got to walk around rue des Gras and take that picture!

And look!
There's Notre Dame du Port!

In all it's ruffly, 11th century magnificence!

And look at this average home!

With an average cat!

If my sweet husband expects much in the way of kisses, I'm just not sure I can oblige.

Unless he speaks French to me. And makes me French coffee.

Ooh la la! Here he comes with a cup in hand!
Have a Wonder-full Weekend, y'all!

Much love, (French coffee will do that to you!)
Becky

That is so not fair! Couldn't he have snuck you on that plane? He should be punished. But only after he brings you the French coffee. :) Blessings, marlene

WOW! What a lovely place to be. I don't blame you one bit for being envious of his business trip! That was the most beautiful butcher chop I've ever seen!

Hey Susan, yeah, cats have a great life in France. Everyone does, internet phenoms or not!

Juicy life, thanks! You'll be enjoying French life soon. I'll try not to hate you.

Attic clutter, I know!! I am enjoying the summer. We were at the beach this past week, mooching off my mom and daddy at their place while Todd was gallivanting around France. Well, he says he was working. Between meals.
Hope you're having a great summer as well!

Stitchin, I agree! Twenty lashes with a wet noodle for him.

qugrainne, I don't know how I live with such agony. I suppose I should be grateful for the pictures. At least he brought me coffee. Speaking of coffee, that cup on your blog looks delish!

Hey Barb! Hugs to yourself! I hope the sun is starting to shine again in your corner of the world!

Hi Tattingchic, I'm going to hide in his suitcase next time around! And it was his second trip to France in three weeks!

I have actually never been to Clermont-Ferrand, except to go to a concert at the Zenith or drive right through -- we're only two hours away, so that's something I've got to do sometime.

Thanks for all of your comments.I'm finally putting you on my Google Reader, which I limit to 40 or so blogs, so I can keep up better.

Bye for now!

Hmmmm, and you think YOU'RE all revved up and nowhere to go! Your post has me drooling. It looks even more fun than CHA. CHA had no patisserie!

Hi Becky, I got Linda to look at this blog - great sense of humor considering your French heart was longing for homeland. We're with you on this one - hubby should definitely be spanked (in an affectionate way).
Hotel Room pic: there's the black-stone volcanic rock cathedral I've been up several times! And Puy de Dome in the distance - what a nice clear day for all of these pics.
Millefeuilles: never had one, but now I have to!
the Boucherie: it is more flowery than most, this is really torture to look at these!
Rue de Gras: have walked down this I think, isn't 1512 on that street? No, I think 1512 is closer to the Cathedral. Nice view of the Dome again in the background. I've been up to the top on the nicest of days with at least a dozen parasailers either flying around the peak, or ready to take-off when the perfect breeze arrives.
Ruffly 11th Century Cathedral: I've been in that one and took a low-light shot inside - such beautiful roman columns inside. Also your hubby will remember a poster I did for Paul Gr. that has this Cathedral + Xones rolling out of it + some high-level managers. I will send a small copy to you email - its very cool.
Isn't even the average home just so wonderful over there? That cat knows he has it made - probably gets served Salmon every day.
I wish the Company still used the private jet that regularly crossed the Atlantic. I'd offer up all of my skills and more, just for the opportunity to hitch a ride! I went on about 10 business trips to C-F and Paris. Loved every one, plus even the cafeteria food is excellent, especially at Dassault Systems in Suresnes (Paris). Happy for you-all that you were given the opportunity to move to C-F for a few years - a wonderful blessing.

Everything looks amazing but the thought of taking a bite of a thought sheets of paper thin pastry just makes my mouth water. Oh to be two places at one time. Now that could be the wonder that is never ceasing! Let's just hope the souvenirs are everything you imagine and more.

Hi Betty C., thanks so much for adding me to your google reader!
They were building the Zenith the last year or two we were in France, and Todd went there for a meeting last week. I hope you'll have a chance to hang around the Auvergne some time. I'm partial to the region of course, but I think it's a great place to tour around.

Hey Gina, no patisserie at CHA but it does look fun!

Kristin, I wish I could stow away. The photos were bad enough, but you should hear the food stories he's been telling! He went to my favorite restaurant twice, and the first time Thierry the chef asked him what he's missed since being in the States, and then prepared it for him the second night!
Drool, drool.

Hey Randy! You should try a millefeuille! And you're so right about the food--the cafeteria food is divine and even frozen dinners at the grocery were incredible! You've got to love a country like that!

Hey Melissa, yup, he brought me back two books that I wanted. Somehow I didn't take enough pictures of Clermont and inside shots of the cathedral there, so he found some tourist books for me. So now I can sit and remember and sigh all over the pages!

Hi Constance, have a nice Sunday yourself! I will thank Todd! Even though it is making me homesick, it's quite a treat to see the pictures!

Yesterday my fiance said, Have you read Becky's blog today?! Clermont Ferrand is beautiful!

I couldn't wait to hop on and see for myself. That ruffly church absolutely takes the cake.

Why, France??? Why are you so beautiful! I can't hardly bear it!!!

Cathy ~ Tadpoles and Teacups said...

Absolutely beautiful. French coffee almost makes up for staying home alone, I guess. :)

Rebecca Ramsey said...

May, your fiance is a sweetheart.
And he's right. It just kills me how beautiful France is.

Hi Cathy. I guess it kind of makes up for it. Since it has to!

Love the pictures...

And what a wonderful average home..

Are the flowers redder in France??

I would be a little upset if my dh was there without me too..
But just think of all the making up he is going to have to do…

The way I see it, he owes you a trip back there or some very, very, very large gift from Paris.
