Counting Sheep...and a Party for Ewe!

Today's Wonder of the World is...The Sheep!

Flickr photo by andreadiaslopes
Seriously, have you ever seen an animal with a sweeter face? Don't you want to tiptoe over to that cute lamb and pretend you're Little Bo Peep? Just for a few minutes?
Okay, maybe that's just my fantasy.

I can't help it. Sheep mesmerize me. I just love to look at their faces.
And watch them eat.
And listen to them bleat.
And I just about die of joy to see them hop. (Of course I've added a Youtube video at the end of this post. How could I not? It's a sheep thrill!)

I knew I had to post about sheep today after Todd showed me this:

I think I'd title the exhibit I always meant to call ewe.
I know. Bad. Very bad.
But aren't those sheep incredible? The curly cords make perfect wool and the handsets hooves! They're made by the artist Jean-Luc Cornec and are currently on display at the Museum of Telecommunications in Frankfurt, Germany.
How I wish they would come to Atlanta or some place else closer! It'd be a shear delight.

Of course mutton beats the real thing. (Sorry. Punmania is a sickness. And there's no editor here to stop me! Mwa ha ha!)

Doesn't he look intelligent? And he knows how to write in German! (Or is that German?) With different colored markers!

And what about this trio?

Flickr photo by *allison*
They look like some teenagers I know.

I love them even when they're being baaaaad.

Sorry. I'll stop now. Before you revolt and I have to run off and live on the lamb.
Ha ha ha. I crack myself up.

Now, on to the second part of today's post.
Ta da!
I'm having a blog party!
And ewe--I mean you--are invited!
Miss Globe-head really hopes you'll join in. So do I!

All you have to do to play is to let me know in a comment that you're joining in the tour of Wonder-Blogs, so that I can add you to my party link list. Then on September 3rd, put Miss Globe-head's picture above at the top of your post, and blog away to your heart's content on whatever Wonder Of Your World you choose.
Then use my link list to zip around the blogosphere to see what other wonders are out there.
There will be Birthday Cake and prizes at my place!
Woo hoo! I'm giving away more French-y junk!

Everyone's invited, whether you have a blog or not! Step right up and invite your friends! I love to discover new blogs! The more the merrier!

Have a Wonder-Full Monday, everyone!
And enjoy the sheep-hopping!
Love, Becky

Hi Becky!
Count me IN! I'm not sure what time I'll be able to pop over on Wednesday, but I'll be here!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I LOVE your punny-ness. I personally think it's a spiritual gift (like sarcasm) Ewe are too funny!

And what's with the hopping? There was nothing to hop over...very odd behavior for little lambs.

Anyhoo, see ewe Wednesday!(It IS hard to stop once you get started, isn't it?)

Hey Girl,I have been catching your site every since it started...Enjoy,Enjoy,Really, you do a great job....Living right here in Greenville I relate alot...Wish sometimes I could blog, but I am not a skilled writer.Having 4 grown kids all married with 9 grandchildren, I would have alot of topic.......One being how not to tell your married kids, what to do, and how to raise their kids............I need tuck tape over my mouth sometimes.....I think they should sell it in a dispenser, in strips that fit perfectly over your mouth....Really I am not that bad.Just have been known to say a few things that are on my mind here and there....Have a Blessed day.Include me in......

Awesome! Great sheep humor. I do love the ones with the long locks of wool over their eyes. Thanks for the invite--I'm in!

SHEEP fascinate me. There's a preacher in Dallas (Jack Graham- pastor of Prestonwood Church), who did an entire sermon on sheep one Sunday morning. He talked about how humans are compared to them in the bible- but yet, they are the dirtiest and dumbest animals on the planet. Hmmm.... so many uncomfortable metophors that could connect to this..... (oh yeah- and I'M GAME)

Ahhh sheep. I'm glad someone feels the same way about them that I do. I never thought much about sheep before we lived in Germany. We had a sheep pasture next door and I found them very peaceful and reassuring. There were three and one (I named her Ethel) hated my husband. She'd yell at him whenever he came home. Yes it was yelling. No gentle baaa from the Ethel. My kids still mention the sheep wistfully and I really miss seeing my rather dignified husband baaa/yelling back at his nemesis.

Oh, Becky! Ewe are just too much! I would love to join you in your world-wide tour. I think sheep are really cool too, but we don't have any around here. It's simply too hot for them. All we have are smelly old goats.

I'd love to join your blog party!

I love sheep, too. They have such sweet faces - I love animals that look like they're smiling all the time.

I was trying to give an animal to Heifer International and so I started to wonder what is the most useful animal in the world and I decided...it's a sheep!

You can drink their milk, wear their wool, and eat them! Plus, they make great pets. So now I always give sheep.

Aww, drat! I wish I could participate in the blog party but that's going to be Book Excerpt Week on my blog.

But I'll be sure to stop by and say hi!

I'll play! And your disease is very punny! Ha ha ha ha!

Cool video. It made me think Baa ram ewe, Baa ram ewe, to your breed, your fleece, your clan be true...

I will try to play on Blog Party day!

Becky,
This reminds me of an incident that was included in one my very earliest posts. It's about the time I had to provide a lamb or sheep costume for my daughter -- and I can not sew! Check it out, if you get a chance. Here's the link to that particular post. You're too creative to ever get stuck like I was! http://blondesherry.blogspot.com/2008/04/i-do-not-sew.html

the picture of the sheep with phones in place of heads -
how about "rammed down my throat" or "urgent matter on the horn" "crank call - just 'kid'ding"
i like yours too...

Folks have pondered the spiritual illustrations of sheep and shepherd and come up with many pertinent analogies...
great post wonders don't ever cease to post them :)

With today's rainy weather, I am somehow feeling sheepish but I am sure by September 3 I will have a new fleece on life and be in sheep shape! And who would want to miss a party with you...it is bound to be so much pun!!!

Rebecca Ramsey said...

You all are the best! And what sheepish puns! I'm in heaven!
I'm thrilled that you want to hop on the Wonder bus next week! It will be fun! Spread the news if you like. We can't have too many wonders!

Ewe are so clever! The sheep photo with the phone heads is amazingly wierd! I'm glad you shared it. Wednesday, what's this I hear about a party on Wednesday! I must come to visit as it's my B-day on Wednesday!

I wanted to say a special hello to Debbie Peterson and Wendy since y'all don't have a blog to comment on. Debbie, you are too funny. And if you find that duct tape for mouths, let me know where to get it! I could use it for myself some days!
Wendy, that is hilarious about your hubby's sheep enemy. We had a neighbor in France who felt the same way about my husband at first, but luckily he eventually won her over. I'd love to have sheep next door. I'd think they'd be calming. Except for Ethel. :)

Hi, Becky,

I'd love to take part in your party! I also love your sheep puns, and the picture that looks like teenagers. When I was little, I used to want to live on a farm just so that I could have a lot of sheep, I thought they looked so cute. Have you seen this YouTube video of a Nigerian Dwarf kid goat that likes to ride on the back of a sheep? -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIkJgH6uN_c
It's so cute!

Hi, Becky,

The link to my website didn't show up through my name in my recent blog post. I don't have a blog. Is that needed to take part in the party? Here's my website:
http://www.marilynpeake.com
I publish a newsletter through YouTube, but don't have a blog.

Anonymous said...

...oops, I meant to say I publish a newsletter through Yahoo! Groups and have a Channel on YouTube. I could post the party picture on either or both of those sites, since I don't have a blog.

I'll play! I'll play! I just moved into a wine barrel on a remote ridge in Big Sur with no Internet access but I'll snake on down to the local pub to boot-leg a little free wireless and get my party on! So fun.

Hello Rebecca,
This is my first visit to your site. Then I have to go join the rest of my family up the street at a Greek Festival!! Did you see Edward Albee's play "The Goat, or, Who Is Sylvia?" Not sheep, goats, but amazing. I am known for my puns, so I'll have to come to your party, if that's okay. Got a heads-up from Nathan Bransford.
