What Music Pumps You Up?

Just so you know, this is not what pumps me up.
But I listened to Thunderstruck three times through last night, as my youngest rocked out in my minivan.
Between you and me, I needed a handful of Tylenols when it when we finally got out of the car.
This is why we played it.

It pumps Sam up. That's him, the one in the air. He had a church basketball tournament to win and needed the inspiration.
It made me think, what music inspired me when I was in 5th grade?
This is what I came up with.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sam would fall to the floor laughing and slip into a coma of hilarity.
But how I loved the Carpenters.

So what music motivated you when you were in fifth grade? What about now? What pumps you up?

Have a great weekend, y'all!
And enjoy Elton John's Philadelphia Freedom. Sam would say he's tons cooler than the Carpenters, but he's just as old. (See the Soul Train version here.)
Love, Becky

We're totally from the same era. I was into the Carpenters too. (Love those flowers btw.)

I loved the Partridge family, the Osmonds, and had a thing for Leif Garrett. *hangs head in shame*

Sam getting reved up by music for a game makes me think of the character Dwight from the sitcom The Office. So cute and what a helpful mom you are. I loved, love and luv music. In fifth grade though, can't quite say. but I definitely grew up in a household that sung along to the tune on the car radio. So much so that once about age 10, when riding with my aunt and four boy cousins (around my age) and singing away to the song on the radio, one cousin asked me "Who sings that song?", I felt very astute knowing the artist and the name of the song and told him. THen he advised me "Well let that person sing it."

I love AC/DC. I'm a closet headbanger. I like disco when I'm on the treadmill, but I love female vocalist like Pink and Brandy Carisle. I'm a big fan of 80's metal. In the fifth grade, though? Herman's Hermits.

Fun comments, y'all!
Susan I had to look up Herman's Hermits. I loved "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter."

Geez... The Carpenters???

I've always been a fan of Southern Rock - nowadays they call it country. Saw the Allman Brothers live when Duane Allman was alive. We go to lots of shows - Keith Urban (Deb's favorite) puts on a great live performance. Had 5th row center last time - he flew overhead on a trapeze - Deb thinks she's all that 'cause she got a picture of his butt from 8 feet away. Wimmin.

Hahaha! The Carpenters were before my time, but that didn't stop me from LOVING them. "I'll say goodbye to love..." *sigh*

What pumps me up? Hip/hop music. My iPod is full of it for running. The Black Eyed Peas have great songs for working out. In my opinion, anyway. ;)

Love the Carpenters music now and when I was in my youth, when they kept coming out with hit after hit on the radio.
If I were to get on a treadmill today, I would say maybe the B-52's album - the one with "Love Shack" and lyrics like "shiny happy people everywhere". It's such an upbeat, happy album. My wife and I really like it.
Very nice post as always Becky.

I love the Carpenters! And I listen to AC/DC all the time on my iPod and while I'm working out. It's funny but my husband recently got a cd which featured country musicians playing AC/DC. Just didn't sound right to me though LOL!
