Crown Jewels

Today's Wonder of the World is...The Crown!

Flickr photo by black_coffee_blue_jeans
Why crowns, you ask?
My question exactly! Why crowns?
Why do kings and queens wear crowns?
How did a fancy hat became such a symbol of royalty?

I looked around the world (thanks to flickr friends) and I think I found out!
Maybe they got the idea from the blue crowned pigeon.

Hello, your highness.

Or from a crown tailed fish.

I bow to you, oh royal fish. Even though your crown's on backwards.

Or certain queenly cranes.

I curtsy to you, Queen Crane.

Or perhaps they noticed that many of earth's royal flowers wear a jeweled crown.

And some of earth's jewels wear flowered crowns!

What a princess!

Crowns are a wonder.

I love the joined bridal crowns in a Greek Orthodox wedding.

For the queen and king of their future household!

That gives me an idea. How about I make a royal dinner for the king and my two princes? (I'd let the servants do it and just enjoy being queen, but we're fresh out of servants! Imagine that!)

We'll eat crowned food.
We'll start with pineapple with its fancy crown.

Aack! That pineapple is looking at me!

We can't forget pomegranates.

I love their crowns--and their fruity jewels!

Now...what to drink?
How about milk? The drops make such pretty crowns.

And for the main dish? Something really fancy! Fit for a royal family of our caliber!

My my! I don't know quite what to say!

Is it dinner time yet?
I'll look at my watch.
Hey! Another crown!

Flickr photo by cnmark
Did you know that the winding knob of a mechanical watch is called a crown?
It looks like one too, don't you think?

Do you know what it's almost time for? (Besides a dinner of crown roast of frankfurters!)

Halloween!
My friend Rosemary at Roses Petite Maison made those lovely Halloween crowns. Lovely work, Rosemary!
I would feel so elegant wearing one of those webby crowns.

Halloween or not, it's good to be queen!

Fun post today as always. I wish I had a crown and some servants to go with it. They could do my laundry today. Alas! I guess there's just me.

I love the flower with the crown and the flowery crown on the cute little girl. Precious!

How about the crowns we wear in our mouths? That could make for a gross picture though, huh?

Happy Monday!

The hot dog 'roast'? Please tell me you wouldn't do that to Todd! You just wouldn't. Couldn't! Right?

Hi Rebecca,
I love crowns, in fact some of my crowns are being featured today on a wedding blog, called the bride's cafe. So it's a great day for crowns.
Have a nice Monday,
Rosemary

Hi Becky,

Love all the crowns but especially the hot dog crown. The girls would just flip over that.

Thank you for your continued prayers.
They are soooo appreciated.

hugs,
Barb

Wow, Rosemary's crowns are all over the 'net today! That was great! I had to laugh at the Crown Roast of Frankfurters!!! LOL! Very sweet the way you called God's children "jewels". I thought that was heartwarming. :)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting ... it reminded me to check in on Wonders Never Cease ... and that reminded me how much I love your blog. Carry on!

I do so love your posts! Koko in a crown and baby pigs! Cannot get better than that to start my Monday!
Thank you, Becky!

Lotusloq, I tried to find some tooth crowns, but all the photos made me need to put my head between my knees. Owie!

Hey Jaxpop. No I'm afraid I couldn't. First of all I would fall over laughing in my kitchen and might hit my head. Second, my husband's on this crazy health food kick, and I don't think it'd make the grade.

Rosemary, I'll google the Bride's Cafe and see if I can find you there. You're definitely the crown queen. I still love those moss ones.

Barb, I'm happy to do it.

Hey Tattingchic, she's definitely a jewel. Just look at that face.

Julee Ann, you're always welcome!

Pamela, you can count on me for pigs and apes. I'm not sure what that says about me.

I've seen those old Weight Watchers cards before. The meals on them are, um ... interesting. I remember somethng called a "frozen cheese salad."

But you know, we expected to see a picture of you with a crown on! Or, failing that, a broccoli crown. ;-)

I always love your take on everyday objects. :)

Crown roast of frankfurters! Ahhhhhhhhhhh I will not be okay for a long time after looking at that.

What about Southern ladies in hats, known as "crowns" in the African American tradition? That's a good one!

Wouldn't it be cool if crowns became fashionable and we all started wearing them?
