Turn, Turn, Turn

Today's Wonder of the World is... Autumn Leaves!...and Something Else!

I usually try to stay away from the political news of the day, but who can ignore the Wonder that just happened in America? Republican or Democrat, who cannot be amazed that with the history of race relations in our dear country, that a man of color could be elected to our highest office? What a beautiful wonder indeed!

Now, to a wonder of color of a different kind...
Of all the wonders of the world, the changing leaves of autumn is one of my favorites.

I know it's all just biochemistry, but it still astounds me. It still makes me stop in my tracks and stare. I look, and as corny as it sounds, I'm so grateful that I can see!
It makes me think of the poem...

"Come," said the wind to the leaves one day,
"Come o're the meadows and we will play.
Put on your dresses scarlet and gold,
For summer is gone and the days grow cold."

The days haven't grown too cold yet here in South Carolina, but the trees are wearing scarlet and gold.
The muscadine leaves are turning too.

We've pulled up the tomatoes and peppers,

and planted broccoli and pansies.
And look, Tanner the Slobber Dog has his coat back again! He doesn't look like an overgrown poodle anymore!

We took a little drive on Sunday afternoon, just to see the colors.

Mother Nature didn't disappoint!

We turned on the radio, and guess what was playing...

Thanks to May's blog last week I'd already been singing it, but what perfect timing for the change of seasons!

1 To every thing there is a season, and a time
to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time
to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is
planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to
break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time
to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather
stones together; a time to embrace, and a time
to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to
keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to
keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of
war, and a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Have a wonder-full Wednesday, y'all!
Love, Becky

Becky ~ What a well-written post! And, yes, regardless of how one voted, it is a historical moment. I am so proud that my daughter (a person of color) will look to our President and know that ANYTHING is possible for her.

I love that song! We don't have as dramatic a change in colors here but I still love this time of year.

Hi Becky,

I have been humming that song for a few days now. We are on the same wavelength-hehe.

This country has come a long way and I am proud of it.

Your pictures are just so beautiful. It is cooler here today. The high should be in the 70's, yay!

I don't know how I missed your bookplate post. Am I too late? I would just love one.

hugs,
Barb

Fall colors - I'm getting to see them in person for the first time in 4 years & it just makes me want to hurry up & get back home to my palm trees & beaches before the northern drab takes over for winter. I'm afraid I keep reciting Dorothy's mantra - There's no place like home.

i know finally......RIGHT! the leaves are coming around.

The seasons of life are encouraging to me sometimes, simply because I LOVE the change. But sometimes it's also sad to say good-bye to them.

Nice post! Good timing. The leaves are finally falling here, as well. I mean really turning colors and falling. Sam raked up a big pile just this afternoon! What a lovely day it was.
