Dough Well Done with Cow to Cover

Today's Wonder of the World is...Diner Lingo!

Welcome to Mel's Diner!
Remember Alice and Tommy, Vera and Mel, and Florence Jean Castleberry?
No? Oh well. It's just the diner of my childhood. Not that I've ever been there.
Or here.

Though I'd love to go.
I know. Let's pretend!
Here, have a seat on this stool.
The waitress looks friendly.

Let's order drinks first.
You want an M.D.?

Or maybe a blonde, with sand?

I'm hungry. I think I'll take a Noah's boy on a raft.

Drag it through the garden, please.

Wow, you must be hungry! A slab of moo--let him chew it.

Here's the Mike and Ike, if you need them.

And to go with it? Sweep the kitchen.

Uh oh. Time to check the ice.

(Translation: a pretty girl just came in.)

Now for dessert...
I think I'll treat myself! I'll have a plate of life preservers

And Eve, with a lid on.

Yes, two desserts. Who are you calling Porky?
Like Flo says, you can just kiss my...

Grits!
(I don't know diner-ese for that.)

Have a wonder-full Wednesday, y'all!
Before you hop back on the bloggy superhighway, drop by Martin Sexton's Diner and dance along with the cast from Scrubs!
Love, Becky

PS. Curious about the title? It's a piece of toast with butter. Here, take it with you. I'll put shoes on it.

A favorite show of ours is called
Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
It is on the food network.
When we retire we are going to make a list of these places and
Just go for it…..

How cute! I love it, I remember Flo and Alice too... and I'm with LW, that's one of our favorite shows too (Tripe D on Food Network). We scope out the diners on our paths to wherever we're going, hoping we're nearby one of those "dives!"

What a fun post. I actually knew some of the lingo. The video of the Scrubs gang was fun. I hadn't realized how much they danced throughout the years. Now off to get some grits for breakfast. Yummm.

Fun! I hang out at a truck stop diner a lot and it's fun to hear the lingo. It's time to enjoy a blonde with sand and wish I had a life preserver.

I swear we must be psychic twins! I've been thinking of featuring diner lingo for awhile now. Great minds (and tummies) think alike :). Fun post, thanks!

That was GREAT! I've always wanted to learn "diner-ese"! Very cool.
Loved the vid at the end. I love Scrubs! :)

I like that kind of life preserver, too.

Diners rock--and there is nothing like jargon. I loved waiting on the breakfast crowd and learning all the abbreviations for the food.

I am soooo hungry. I haven't had breakfast yet :-)
Thanks for the flashback. I remember that show!

I wonder what ever happened to Tommy?

Hi, Becky, thank you for stopping by, glad you enjoyed my blog & I hope you'll come back again. Nice to meet you too!

I enjoyed that old TV show! But what I enjoyed even better were the dozen or more times eating in those real aluminum streamlined diners back in the 60's in upstate NY. What a treat it was for my parents to take us kids out to lunch in one of those. Enjoyed your blog as always.

Do you know . . . I was just researching diner lingo a few weeks ago. What a coincidence!

Also, can I brag that Linda Lavin lives a few blocks from here? :)
