Speaking of Christmas, we've packed up all our holiday decorations and put them back in the attic. But we're still enjoying these...
I couldn't bear to throw them out, even though the oranges are browning a little.
Have you ever studded oranges or lemons with cloves? Sam and I did those one Saturday a few weeks ago when we were feeling crafty, and they still smell wonderful!
I do love cloves in my cider--unless I forget to strain them out and end up chewing on one.
It's a good thing I didn't work for the emperor in 200BC China. He used to require anyone addressing him to speak with a clove in his mouth. Clove breath might be nice, but the talking might be tricky!

Looks like a ball and claw--but it's a gourd! Remember the fun we had with the wonder of gourds?
It was fun while it lasted, but that gourd looks gross to me.
Let's change the subject. Let's go back to cloves.
I think I'll go put my claws around a few more oranges and make a fresh batch of clove studded fruit. Thanks to the fact that my husband can never say no to a school fundraiser, we have an army's supply of oranges!

The clove and orange thing is always a favorite around here at Christmastime! They smell so lovely. I never thought of them as looking like the claw and ball furniture feet, but now I guess I will! I have a dresser with feet like that.

ReplyDeleteBut I do put an old enamel coffee pot on the woodstove and add cloves and cinnamon to the water
to make my house smell wonderful…

ReplyDeleteFor some reason cloves kind of gag me (I'm a smeller...always have been). DOTR chews on them because he has to have something in his mouth at all times, so his office is a stinkfest. He got the idea from a woman he used to work with years ago who was from India. She said that's how she stayed so slim. So far, in DOTR's case, it's not working.

ReplyDeleteDo you remember Clove gum? I used to love than, but rarely see it anymore.
I recently had henna done on my hands for an Indian wedding. And guess what it smelled like? CLOVES.
ReplyDeleteTurns out, you have to be careful with henna because it contains clove oil, which can be a skin irritant. (I didn't have any trouble.)
